Department of Biblical Studies and Theology - AA Course Descriptions

Course Descriptions

Mississippi Life University (MLU) uses a standardized course numbering system to indicate the level and sequence of courses within each department.

 

Number Ranges:
 

  • 100–199 – Freshman Level: Introductory courses with no prerequisites, designed for students beginning their program of study.

  • 200–299 – Sophomore Level: Intermediate courses that may require completion of certain 100-level courses.

  • 300–399 – Junior Level: Upper-division courses requiring foundational knowledge in the subject.

  • 400–499 – Senior Level: Advanced courses, typically requiring completion of specific prerequisites and junior-level courses.

  • 500–599 – Graduate Level (Master’s): Specialized, advanced courses requiring a bachelor’s degree and admission to a graduate program.

  • 600–699 – Graduate Research & Thesis: Independent study, research projects, and thesis preparation at the master’s level.
     

Letter Prefixes:

Each course number is preceded by a two- or three-letter prefix identifying the academic department or subject area. Examples include:

 

  • BST – Biblical Studies & Theology

  • CPC – Clinical Pastoral Counseling

  • ENG – English

  • FLG – Foreign Language

  • MAT – Mathematics

  • THE – Theology

  • UBM – Urban Ministry
     

Example:

BST 101 – Introduction to Biblical Studies

  • BST = Biblical Studies & Theology Department

  • 101 = Freshman-level, first course in the sequence

Description
Doctrine of Christ (3 Hour Lecture) - This course is designed to help students learn the entire spectrum of beginning, perfecting, understanding, and living the Christian life.

Weaning of the Soul I (Merismos) (3 Hour Lecture) - This teaching students will do an in-depth study on the Greek word for “dividing asunder” that is found in Hebrews 4:12. This course contains a unique revelation of separation of the soul, psyche, and the spirit, pneuma, of a born-again Christian who is filled with the Spirit-ruled life, Zoe, of God. 
This course is a prerequisite to THE 164 – The Merismos II Course.

Prayer (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help teach students the steps,  procedures, and methods involved   in prayer.
Faith (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students learn the basic principles of the Godkind of Faith and why Faith is the key to receiving from God.

Weaning of the Soul II (Merismos) (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students to learn the powerful transformative affects the Word of God can have on their spirit, soul, and body. They can be transformed by God and not conformed to this world. 
This course is a continuation of THE 161 -The Merismos I Course.

Believer’s Authority (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will do an in-depth study on why Believer’s as the church, have authority on the earth that they never yet realized the authority that they are not using.

Gifts of The Spirit (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students learn the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit and to  understand their operations in the Body of Christ today.

Prophetic (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students gain insight into the prophetic word study.  Students will learn the pathway to the discovery of speaking to the purpose of God for this generation and modern-day ministries.

Old Testament Survey (3 Hour Lecture) - This course is an introduction to Old Testament Survey, Bible Study Preparation, and key ideas of the Old Testament books.
Life of Christ (3 Hour Lecture) - Students embark on a journey to discover the New Testament's historic and  cultural background and the nature of the Gospels. They will examine Jesus' Galilean, Berean, and Judean ministries, and follow Christ's public teaching, triumphal entry into Jerusalem, final hours, and resurrection and post-resurrection appearances.
Evangelism (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students learn how to be an instrument in the hands of  God for winning precious souls to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Art of Worship (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students learn that Worship is a command, a response to the work of God, our purpose, a humble posture of the heart and body, a sacrifice, and the different types of worship.
Study of Truth (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students learn the basics on how to study and understand in-depth the scriptures within the context of the finished works of Jesus Christ.
Divine Healing (3 Hour Lecture)  - This course will help students learn the a solid foundation that will release faith for effectively receiving or ministering healing.

Discipleship (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students learn biblical precepts, while modeling and guiding others toward living righteously as followers of Jesus Christ.

Qualifications of a Deacon/Finances (3 Hour Lecture) -  This course will prepare students to be servants, as a Deacon or Deaconess.  Students will learn the importance of being faithful servants and confident leaders of  families and ministry leaders.

Fundamentals of Public Speaking (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will enable students to study and practice in making speeches for a variety of public forums. Major emphasis is placed on speech preparation and delivery.

Laws of Teamwork (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will show students vital principles of team building that are necessary for success in their families, churches, businesses, and organizations.

Ministry of Helps (3 Hour Lecture) - This course will help students define the Ministry of Helps so they can find a place in the Body of Christ and  thrive.

New Testament Survey (3 Hour Lecture) - This course is an introduction to the New Testament Survey, Bible Study Preparation, and key ideas of the New Testament books.
